Bernd Schaarmann

Bernd has over ten years of professional experience as a freelance director, producer and lecturer. After studying Economics at the University of Dortmund he joined the New York Film Academy for a basic film course followed by postgraduate studies at the Film/Television Department of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne.

Bernd has directed several short films and a broad and increasing variety of commercials and image films. Instead of becoming a funeral director like his parents he shot his first feature length documentary about that subject. His experiences as a lecturer include courses in visual story telling, drama and editing, media production and camera acting. In 2010 Bernd and his co-writer Heike Fink were granted the Gerd-Ruge-Scholarship from the Film- and Medienstiftung NRW for his latest cinematic documentary project. In December 2009 he became head of the new Masterclass Non-Fiction at the ifs international film school.
